In order to create a stable and durable platform for the replacement tooth, the implant has to bond tightly with the bone.
The recovery period after the implantation can be divided into two stages:
-the first stage takes on the average from 2 to 6 days during which swelling is possible and you might feel some minor pain, depending on the clinical situation, the extent of the surgery, and the quality of the jawbone.
-the second stage takes on the average from 6 to 24 weeks and usually is not related with any pain or discomfort, depending on the clinical situation, the extent of the surgery, the quality of the jawbone, the implantation zone and the type of the denture to be used.
Following your dentist’s instructions regarding regular and thorough oral hygiene is one of the most important prerequisites of a successful recovery and helps to minimize the risks of post-surgery complications.
For the time necessary for the bone to heal, the gap between the teeth is filled with an esthetically looking temporary denture, which will be finally replaced with a permanent denture. In some cases, after detailed and thorough examinations, it is possible to place a permanent denture at the same time with implant placement.
